Q. Are they self-signed ?
A. No, the certificates are from a real CA
A. These free certificates are Domain Validated or DV
Q. How many certificates can I get ?
A. To be honest, I haven't found anything related to a limit on this. I have around 100 SSL certificates issued from my account. In theory you can get an unlimited number
Q. Any restrictions ?
A. The domain that you want to get the SSL must be 7 days old. If it's younger, the process will be rejected. But you can apply after the 7 day mark
Q. Can I get wildcard SSL ?
A. No. Wildcard SSL are not free. But you can issue a new SSL for each subdomain. Please be warned that a SSL enabled website needs a dedicated IP from you provider.
Q. Will I get a warning when I visit a website with a free SSL certificate ?
A. All modern browsers and operating systems fully support these certificates. You will get a nice blue padlock when visiting such a website.
